ABOUT SHAYNA
I am currently a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee at One Life Counseling Center (supervised by Alex Tsai, LMFT #96390), completing a Master’s in Counseling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. In addition to private practice, I have worked as a school-based counselor at a K-8 school and a hospital-based therapist with people experiencing acute medical issues and end-of-life transitions.
As a lifelong dancer and somatic practitioner, I am attuned to the ways our long-held feelings, beliefs, and relational patterns show up in our bodies. I believe working with the body in session can be a powerful road toward healing. At Wesleyan University, I wrote my undergraduate thesis on Authentic Movement, a movement therapy practice. I trained as a yoga teacher through YogaWorks and have taught dance and yoga classes for children, adults, and elders.
I am also passionate about working with clients to reconnect with nature and the wild places within. Ecotherapy practices, including those that bring us outdoors or invite nature indoors, can offer new perspectives and put us in relationship with something larger than ourselves. I hold an Advanced Training Certificate in Ecopsychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and have completed outdoor leadership training through the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
Prior to my career in mental health, I spent over a decade as a strategic advisor and manager in the social and public sectors, helping people and organizations achieve their social and environmental impact goals. I hold an MBA from Yale School of Management and a BA from Wesleyan University.
